The first use of FRP as concrete reinforcement dates back to 1956 in Massachusetts. This design was done by MIT University. Years later, during the destruction of the structure, it showed unexpected resistance. In the early 1990s, the regulations for the use of FRP rebars were published by the ACI-440 committee, and in 1996, the first bridge deck using FRP rebars as concrete reinforcement was built in West Virginia. The most FRP rebar used in a project was in the channel construction, to prevent flooding in the Jizan region of Saudi Arabia, which is 4,800,000 meters, a quarter of the expected amount for the whole project.
